Quick answer
Our suggested planning allowance is 90 minutes to two hours, adjusted to your pace, heat and open areas. This is not a compulsory duration set by the monument.
A suggestion, not an official circuit
For a first visit, we suggest a look at the landscape and information panels, followed by the public monuments, arch and mosaic houses. This is an editorial order: adapt it to the displayed plan, open areas and staff instructions. Use about 90 minutes to two hours as a planning allowance, with more time if you enjoy reading, photography or pauses.

Make the visit comfortable
Bring shoes suited to uneven surfaces, water and sun protection. Do not make the outing depend on finding refreshments on site. Visitors with mobility needs should ask about current access arrangements beforehand. With children, a few recognisable stops can work better than a long checklist of ruins.
Before leaving and before booking
Check opening information and your admission category, then arrange the return journey. When choosing a day trip, compare time on site and entry inclusions; the programme may also visit Moulay Idriss and Meknès. Respect protected areas and conservation instructions. A shorter, comfortable route is preferable to rushing to every house.
These are planning suggestions, not monument rules. Open areas and instructions on the day take priority.
A flexible two-hour planning example
If you have roughly two hours available, use the first part to orient yourself among the public monuments, the middle of the visit for the main street and arch, and the remaining time for accessible mosaic houses and a comfortable return. This is an editorial planning example, not a minimum duration, an official circuit or a promise that every area will be open. Shorten the route if conditions or your group’s pace require it.
Adapt the route to your group
Choose a few shared priorities before entering. With children, alternating a large landmark with a small detail to find can make the walk easier to follow. If someone needs frequent rests or a step-free route, ask the site about current access conditions before travelling; an open archaeological landscape should not be treated as a guarantee of universal accessibility. Keep water, suitable walking shoes and time for the return in your plan.
